Description
The book by Olin Jurman, "Traces of Heroes," offers a personal perspective on courage and betrayal. The individual stories of glory and suffering are not arranged chronologically. The author wanted the reader to realize that heroism is very close to betrayal. The book shows that throughout history, there are many instances where heroes have turned into traitors. Often, it depends only on the angle of view. An example of both a hero and a traitor is General Vlasov. He also started as a hero, who in the most difficult times for Russia managed to lead his troops out of German encirclement twice and became a national favorite when he managed to halt the enemy's advance at the final stop of the Moscow tram. When he subsequently fell into Hitler's captivity, he immediately turned and allied himself with the mortal enemy of his country. And several writers are trying to recreate him as a national hero after eighty years. Olin Jurman sought the stories described in the volumes of the National Central Archive, the Archive of Security Forces, the Military Central Archive, as well as in district archives.
