The author of the contemporary book title THE TENNIS RACKET in artistic and poetic variations, holistic anthropologist Prof. Jaroslav Malina, is known to the reading public as a top scholar, but also as a passionate tennis enthusiast who has successfully practiced the "white sport of kings" throughout his life as both an art and a scientific discipline, for which the term tennisology is beginning to gain traction. One can only hope that two other generously conceived tennisology-art projects, Jaroslav Malina – Tomáš Bím, INTRODUCTION TO TENNIS ART (Anthropological and Artistic Perspective) and Jaroslav Malina, TENNIS HUMOROUSLY AND SERIOUSLY or FROM CZECHIA TO WIMBLEDON AND BACK AGAIN (in words and images), prepared for publication despite the coronavirus and the associated economic crisis, will soon see the light of day to the delight of all interested lovers of sports history, artistic works inspired by tennis, Malina's inimitable poetic commentaries, and well-informed encyclopedic explanations. The current volume, which focuses on the seemingly prosaic component of sports equipment, the tennis racket, as well as its retired and long-discarded specimens, which in a better case would end up as memorabilia for eccentric collectors, can be considered a taste of the planned tennis trilogy.
