Description
The goal of this book is to help you acquire a comprehensive database education. It aims to help you understand how to structure a database into interconnected tables in a real situation, how to write into these tables, and how to think about formulating SQL queries when searching through data. The publication starts at the level of a reader who has a basic awareness of databases and the SQL language, gained, for example, from studying the author's previous book Databases and SQL for Beginners. It explains table linking using foreign keys, introduces basic database design questions, teaches how to construct complex SQL queries, and in the final part, familiarizes you with other database objects and tools such as indexes, transactions, stored procedures, and triggers. Throughout the explanation, you can closely follow the author's reasoning about database problems and find your own way of thinking. It's almost as if you were sitting next to him, and he was sharing all his thoughts out loud. You will reach for this textbook whether you are studying databases and the SQL language in school, using them at work, programming against them, or just applying for a job that requires knowledge of SQL. About the author: Mgr. Radek Vystavěl, Ph.D. is a graduate of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague and the Faculty of Business and Economics at Mendel University in Brno. He works as a programmer.
