Hříbata jsou malí koně – Beran Ladislav (2020)

Emeritus commissioner of the criminal service Ladislav Beran surprises his readers this time. He offers a story from the end of the previous regime, quite distant from the crime genre, although it is not lacking in minor crime plots and dramatic situations. We glimpse a short segment of the life of Karin Vlasáková, who in 1988 is released from a prison in Brno, where she served three years for the crime of parasitism. During that time, she decided to quit the oldest profession in the world. Her new life path leads her to a stud farm in Dvorce near South Bohemia's Písek. Here, she wants to disappear from her pimp Edo and thus definitively cut herself off from her past life. A truly demanding job in the foaling barn awaits her, initially in quite shocking conditions. Her past does not remain hidden for long, and Karin is not far from fleeing. However, she is held here by a great love for horses and has high hopes for a budding relationship with the stud farm manager. She does not give up and does not run away even after the Velvet Revolution, when major changes occur at the stud farm due to restitution. Like many others, she finds herself at a crossroads, and it is up to her whether she will start searching for her mine of happiness.
