Another book by Emil Ščuka, the founder and director of the International Conservatory in Prague, titled "Masters," presents in an almost encyclopedic manner the most significant representatives of classical and jazz music among the Roma in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. I read it with genuine interest, and I must say it surprised me in several ways. I have not yet read a more comprehensive overview in a single book, in one single place, which I actually consider its greatest contribution. Of course, it does not contain all the names, nor can it, but it creates the most coherent basic overview of the names of musicians who have transformed their talent, often honed and perfected through generations of musical family backgrounds and studies at prestigious schools, into successes of a global nature, achieving the highest recognition even in genres where, for various reasons, it was not possible or at least common two generations ago.
