Description
The illegitimate son of the Russian empress Sofia and the monk Rasputin soon becomes embroiled in the politics of the emerging state of workers and peasants. The inherited genes from his parents could not escape the attention of the new powers that be. With a diploma in his pocket, he is introduced to the most powerful man after Stalin - the head of the police, Lavrentiy Beria. He recognizes in him a suitable person for implementing the rule of red terror after the overthrow of the tsar. Stojan Jakobič, baptized with this lascivious name at Rasputin's behest, however, begins to use the name Grigorij at his mother's request. He becomes a man with a divided conscience. Although he internally disagrees with the politics as carried out by the Bolsheviks, he becomes a person used by both Beria and Stalin to eliminate their most serious opponents. His liquidation activities lead him to Czechoslovakia by the end of the war. There, he meets the daughter of a former 'White Guard' and faces a serious decision...
