Description
Originally known as SS-Sonderkommando Dirlewanger, later SS-Sonderbataillon and SS-Sonderregiment Dirlewanger, the SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger participated in a number of operations against partisans and insurgents. Initially deployed in the General Government, it was followed by two and a half years of engagement in Belarus, and finally during the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising and the Slovak National Uprising. On the Oder front, this unit was incorporated into the 36th Waffen-Grenadier-Division SS, which was a corps almost entirely composed of criminals, Wehrmacht offenders, convicts from the Waffen-SS and police, as well as political prisoners, and ultimately stood in the last battle of the Reich. This volume contains the memories of a former member of the SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger, who served in this unit from the first to the last day.
