The ideas of Tomáš Baťa were expressed nearly a hundred years ago, yet their timelessness touches us daily. Often, we feel as if Tomáš Baťa were commenting on current economic, business, national economic, political, and societal issues. This feeling is entirely justified and arises from the essence of Tomáš Baťa's thinking, which was based on personal experience. The best way to define this way of thinking was articulated by Antonín Cekota, a close collaborator of Tomáš Baťa and editor of the company press: 'These are not academic or theoretical reflections of an economist, sociologist, philosopher, or politician, who may freely unleash their imagination and construct a coherent, closed world from their thoughts and opinions, without responsibility to the real world. They are expressions of a man for whom words were a precursor and part of action, and therefore cannot be separated from his work. Perhaps that is why he is best understood by those who work on their daily tasks, feeling that everything alive remains unfinished, that life can be understood in the infinite sprouting, birth, and striving, as Tomáš Baťa understood and experienced it.'
