Description
This science-fiction novel is set in 2329, when humanity has used wormholes to colonize more than four hundred planets and peace reigns for the first time in history. Then something seemingly impossible happens: a star thousands of light-years away suddenly disappears. It neither goes supernova nor collapses into a black hole; it simply vanishes, trapped inside a vast force field. At a time when conventional interstellar travel is long obsolete, the only ship capable of faster-than-light speed is sent to investigate the inexplicable phenomenon. Meanwhile, the question increasingly arises whether there was a reason for the distant star’s isolation. Getting inside may ultimately prove less difficult than preventing something from getting out. The stories of the individual protagonists gradually intertwine and merge into an astonishing cosmic saga, in the distinctive style of Peter F. Hamilton.
