Description

Space opera was originally a derogatory term introduced in 1941 by American sci-fi writer Wilson Tucker to distinguish this genre from 'serious' science fiction focused on the consequences of scientific research. It is a type of fantasy closely associated with science fiction. Works falling into this category typically include romantic adventures, interstellar travel, space battles, and stories revolving around interstellar conflict and personal dramas. Recently, there have been quite few of these adventurous stories, so a collection of short stories by excellent Czech authors will surely delight fans of this type of sci-fi. In the anthology, you will find magnificent space battles of thousands of ships (who else but Jiří Walker Procházka), romantic adventures of hostile fighters (V. Ríša), interstellar conflicts, both threatening and real, and their unexpected resolutions (O. Neff, J. Mostecký, A. Šochová), betrayals, friendships, interracial conflicts, or even the problem of the Interplanetary Goat (J. Rečková)... Simply put, science fiction in all its glory, connecting to stories not only from the 1920s but also from more recent times when this genre experienced a revival.
