It became famous worldwide because of Heydrich, the SS leader of Bohemia and Moravia, as Lidice was pacified for the assassination attempt on him. Everyone knows the image of the beautiful memorial, the row of statues of children that stands there today. Each murdered child has its statue there... In our country, there were hundreds of such villages, thousands of children, and people generally speak of all of them at once. And that is not as impactful. Because when you hear: one hundred and ten villages in Zamojskie, thousands across Poland, that Poles suffered the most after the Jews of all nations, you see nothing. What shakes us must be concrete and have its name.
