While the Old Testament largely takes place on a journey and implicitly reveals the very essence of wandering, the New Testament dramatically introduces us to a completely new reality of pilgrimage through an adventurous travel narrative: it invites us on a Journey in a radically new way, invites us on a Journey of following the crucified Messiah, on a Journey through time that leads to eternity; it invites us to a completely new and highest dimension of the Journey: it is a Journey from death to life, from slavery to freedom, from nothingness to God's closeness and participation in the inner divine life; it is a Journey for man absolute – the goal of this Journey is the heavenly Jerusalem, which is not on the map of the world, and yet this Journey leads through the world and time.
