Description
This biography tells the story of Count Kaplíř, a Czech who helped shape world history and is described as a forgotten hero in Czech society. Professor Miltner presents his life to remind readers of this important historical figure. Kaplíř was one of the most prominent commanders of the Habsburg monarchy of his time and one of those who helped prevent the Muslim Ottoman Empire from conquering Vienna and continuing its advance into Moravia. The Turkish forces were defeated at Vienna and thereafter continued to retreat. The book calls for significant members of the Czech nation to be remembered, so that both present and future generations know what their ancestors achieved with limited resources during a period of national weakness, contributing to the development and defence of European civilisation.
