Description
The book offers a view of the historical development of migrations primarily related to the European space and its transformation over the last twenty years. Each migration case from the mid-20th century is specific and relatively little reflects the previous ones. From what angle do scientists view them? What conclusions have they reached, and what topics do they overlook? How does the adaptation of migrants in a new environment proceed? What situations does life after immigration bring? What migrations affected the Czech Republic in the second half of the 20th century, and why does the Czech public know little about them? To what extent have communication technologies, transportation options, electronic banking, and other achievements of modern society changed the character of migrations? And what are the legal tools that form the backbone of the current legislation on international protection? Not only these fundamental questions are attempted to be answered by an ethnologist, sociologist, and lawyers in this book. The publication, of course, does not exhaust the broad and complicated topic of migrations. However, it shows the diversity of perspectives on this area of human society's life, confronting expert views with questions brought by current realities.
