Description
In Wu Ming-Yi's fictional world, illusions, ideas, and dreams intertwine with scientific knowledge and reflections, shedding new light on the fates of the novel's characters, their personal losses, and complex life decisions. We observe a kind of danse macabre of people with the world. The author's original approach to environmental literature allows us to view life through the eyes of insects, exploring the possibilities of our senses and realizing that the world was not created solely for our eyes and that in the light of potential disasters, there is no second chance. Culture and nature intertwine, so the threat to one also means a threat to the other. Wu Ming-Yi represents a new generation of Taiwanese, for whom environmental thinking is an inseparable part of their identity. The novel straddles the narrative style of Haruki Murakami and South American magical realism. The book is illustrated by the prominent Czech illustrator Tomáš Řízek.
