Description
The movement is known by the acronym BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) and seeks to non-violently compel Israel to comply with international law, inspired by the international boycott during the end of apartheid in South Africa. Although in July 2011, Israel outlawed public support for economic and political boycotts, significantly undermining freedom of speech, the movement is becoming an effective tool for expressing dissent against the annexation of Palestinian territories. The book features contributions from the following authors: Slavoj Žižek, Naomi Klein, Ilan Pappé, Mustafa Barghouthi, Jonathan Pollak, Merav Amirová, Dalit Baum, Nada Elia, Joel Beinin, Hind Awwad, Noura Erakat, Ronald Kasrils, David Lloyd, Laura Pulido, Haneen Maikey, Omar Barghouti, Marc Ellis, Jamal Khader, Ran Greenstain, Angela Davis, Lisa Taraki, Mark LeVine, John Berger, Neve Gordon, Michael Warschawski, Ken Loach, Rebecca O'Brien, Paul Laverty, Ra'anan Alexandrowicz, Rebecca Vilkomerson.
