The book 'A Secret Journey to Saint James' is a remarkable account of Ivan Burkert's extraordinary journey from Hradec Králové to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It addresses the increasingly well-known theme of the Camino de Santiago, which has been a pan-European phenomenon since the Middle Ages. However, probably no one has ever completed it on a high wheel (velocipede) over the highest Alpine passes, known from the 'most brutal' stages of the Tour de France. The book combines an authentic transcription of Ivan's 'juicy' travel diary, which he wrote every night after riding 100 - 170 km in the saddle, with a pictorial publication featuring a wealth of beautiful photos of European landscapes and monuments from Karlštejn to Carcassonne, Avignon, Lourdes, and Burgos, all the way to Santiago de Compostela, or the famous 'End of the World' on the western tip of the Iberian Peninsula. Significant places along the route are presented in special inserted chapters, making the book a guide for future candidates of this challenging but beautiful pilgrimage across Europe.
