The book "Beroun Reminiscences" is written as a saga of one of the Beroun families – the Saga of the Kříž family – over a period of 101 years. It contains no less than 101 stories, legends, and tales. The first test readers argue about how many Beroun citizens, characters, and personalities are mentioned in this book, and how many of them are contemporaries. The author of the book, Rudolf Kadeřábek, stands by the number 101. He is just not sure what contemporaries will say when they read about themselves. He is also curious about how readers will accept what new information they learn, or whether they already knew it because they were once present or heard it from their ancestors but have since forgotten... For example, that it was from Beroun that poet Fráňa Šrámek and songwriter Karel Hašler left for the front in 1914. Or that President T. G. Masaryk's car had a special trunk for gifts and rewards from municipalities, corporations, and private individuals. From Beroun, the Kříž family sent Tatíček Masaryk home with a full basket of Beroun's double-sided pastries. It may be that witnesses will come forward who were privy to how Václav Pavel Borovička forged perfume for the self-assured Wehrmacht and promissory notes for trusting creditors.
