The book is composed of originally private records, gathered over the years of the author's friendship with photographer Honza Kaval. They were collected thanks to their collaboration on the publication of the magazine Vítaný host, during which they often traveled together through Šumava. "For everything I know about Šumava today, for everything I could see and experience here, I owe it to Honza. He taught me to know places I had never entered," the author confides. She listened to many interesting stories while wandering through Šumava, and many more at the computer as they sifted through hundreds of images meant to illustrate the Šumava tales. She processed fragments of memories into a friendly narrative, reminding herself of those beautiful moments while also introducing Jan Kaval to everyone who has been buying magazines, books, or calendars with his pictures for years.
