Description
The Scottish diary of Z. J. Pojman introduces us to a rather unusual environment. He went to Scotland to earn some money needed to pay off debts. Thus, he found himself among Central and Eastern European migrant workers, who are not particularly welcomed and are mostly sent to do menial jobs. Those who come here to earn a living must grapple with a foreign environment and language, as well as unfamiliar work. The author vividly portrays this entire disparate community, skillfully capturing the individual characters of those he encountered daily, as well as excellently describing the monotonous drudgery of work on the assembly line processing meat at one of the modern chicken slaughterhouses. Pojman's prose tells a lot about people who are hardly written about today, and with its immediacy and authenticity, it will surely win over its readers.
