Description
Karel May is considered a classic of adventure literature. Unlike most of May's books, the novel Red-Blue Methuselah takes us to China of the last century, then known as the Empire of Heaven. On a quest for inheritance, the eternal student Red-Blue Methuselah sets off with his servant Gottfried of Bouillon, gymnasium student Stein, and the Bernese dog Cupid. The journey, full of adventure but also humor, takes us among pirates, into Chinese prisons, and among Muslim rebels. Other characters in this still humorous work, such as Captain Frick Turnerstick, who speaks Chinese using Chinese endings that no one understands, or the perpetually ill fat man Willem von Aardappelenbosch, add a fresh spirit to the book, thanks to the quirky translation by Milan Korejs.
