Description

A collection of articles about the Russian intelligentsia. It was published in Russia in 1909 as a compilation of articles by the most significant representatives of Russian thought of that time. Edited by literary historian and publicist M. Geršenzon, the collection includes contributions from philosophers N. Berdyaev, S. Bulgakov, and S. Frank, political thinker and activist P. Struve, lawyer B. Kisťakovskij, and publicist A. Izgojev. The collection served as a kind of manifesto that emerged from the experience of the first Russian revolution and warned against playing with revolutionary ideas. The authors pointed out that if the ideas of the pro-revolutionary inclined Russian society were not fundamentally revised in favor of spiritual values, Russia could expect tragedy. This warning, issued eight years before the October Revolution, unfortunately proved to be prophetic.
