Description
The publication 'Conversations about Handwriting' revives the theme of written script, the fundamental graphic expression of every person. The author draws from her doctoral studies at the AAAD in Prague (2002-2005). The main topic of the publication is handwritten script and calligraphy in contemporary times. It is an in-depth probe and survey in the field of handwriting, aiming to discover the role of the school writing model in everyday life and the current status of calligraphy as an art form in our 'computer' age. The core of the book consists of interviews with twenty-four personalities from Czech typography and graphic design, showcasing their handwriting and work (Josef Týfa, Jan Solpera, Clara Istlerová, František Štorm, Aleš Najbrt, Robert V. Novák, and others), and also includes handwritten facsimiles of deceased figures from Czech typographic and calligraphic creation (Vojtěch Preissig, Oldřich Menhart, František Muzika, Oldřich Hlavsa, and others). The book is intended for anyone interested in visual culture and can also serve as suitable study material for students in the field of typography and graphic design. Awarded in the Most Beautiful Czech Book of the Year 2007 competition.
