The book is part of the set Czech Language for 1st Grade Primary School, which also includes a Primer, a Reader, and five volumes of writing books. Similar to the Primer, the Living Alphabet contains a wealth of proven and new practical ideas and traditional methodologies. It strictly adheres to didactic principles. It includes many simple games for practicing the material and is richly illustrated. It contains numerous motivational elements. The methodology for the tasks is provided directly on the individual pages. The atmosphere of the textbook is cheerful, calm, and friendly. We also recommend the simultaneous use of the games We Play with Letters, Memory Game "Fairy Tale Alphabet," and Syllable Puzzle. The book includes an introduction to school life for students, practices concepts of up, down, right, left, and reading from left to right, initially using pictures (see page 8), games like find what belongs (or does not belong) in the picture, and finding differences in pictures. Following this is practice in syllabication (see page 11) and reading all vowels (see, for example, "A" on pages 12 and 13) and consonants L, S, M, P, T. At the end of the Living Alphabet, students practice reading syllables (see pages 28, 29). A fairy tale runs throughout the textbook, introducing the material and motivating the students. Approved by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic under ref. no. 2828/2012-22 on May 15, 2012, for 6 years.
