Description
Views of Bratislava have been preserved as graphic prints; depictions of the city created in the medium of painting or drawing are found only exceptionally until the 19th century. They take the form of free graphics, flyers, or illustrations in chronicles, atlases, travel literature, topographical, historical, and also geographically oriented literature. The creators mostly produced them on commission from publishers, publishers, or graphic workshops, which often published entire editions of prints, and these were inserted into books or took the form of loose sheets. Within the preserved material, such representations take the form of standalone views of the city and its interiors or are part of prints where the view serves a subsidiary role and is more for localization or complementing a specific visual scene. This includes historical, genre, hagiographic, or battle scenes, portraits, plans, and maps related to Bratislava and its history.
