This Czech-language book tells the story of Japan, a country where the sun rises and the threat of disaster is an everyday reality. Ordinary life here exists under the constant shadow of death, and people have no choice but to accept this fact. Five years after the massive earthquake, devastating tsunami waves and the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, people try to return to normal life. Some survivors learn to dive so they can search the seabed for the bodies of their lost loved ones. Others try to live as though nothing happened, while some speak with ghosts and others begin attending death workshops. Because life must go on. And so must dying. Katarzyna Boni received the Gryfia literary prize for the book, awarded to women authors, and became a finalist for the prestigious Ryszard Kapuściński Award for Literary Reportage.
