Description
These stories relate to one of the greatest achievements of human thought of all time, differential and integral calculus. The brilliant Newton-Leibniz formula can easily be compared to the Pythagorean theorem. The presented publication aims to make this formula and some of its applications accessible to the reader at an elementary level. After all, in the 17th century, an unparalleled advancement in physics was made on this basis, which laid the foundation for the industrial revolution. Integrals, however, also play an important role in contemporary scientific research. For instance, no one needs to be convinced of the relevance of applications of probability and statistics in various areas of life. Moreover, the revolutionary turn in these fields was brought about by the Russian mathematician A. N. Kolmogorov, who established them on a solid foundation provided by set theory and the integral based on it. In addition, the book presents several stories from the lives and works of prominent scientists starting with Archimedes. These stories can be read independently of mathematical formulations.
