Description
The work of French writer Sylvie Germain (1954) is highly regarded in the literary world and has been translated into many languages. In Paris, she studied philosophy under Professor Emmanuel Lévinas. Her debut novel, The Book of Nights (Czech 1997), was awarded six literary prizes, and its two standalone sequels, Amber Night and Days of Rage (Czech 1995), also attracted significant attention. From 1986 to 1993, she worked at the French lycée in Prague. In 1992, she dedicated an untranslated book to this city, Le Pleurante des rues de Prague (The Weeping of the Streets of Prague). In 1996, she wrote the foreword to the bilingual edition of the poetry collection by Bohuslav Reynek, Le serpent sur la neige - The Snake on the Snow. The book Bohuslav Reynek in Petrkov: A Pilgrim in His Abode was published in 1996 by the French publisher Christian Pirot with photographs by Tadeusz Kluba. This essayistic reflection on the fates of two great artists was first published in Czech in 2000, translated by Petr Turek. The second edition from the Petrkov publishing house is released in a new graphic design with photographs by Daniel Reynek.
