Annotation: Fish Scales is Reynek's first collection, which contains only prose poems; after the following collection (Snake on the Snow, 1924), Reynek abandons this form and returns to the austere poetic structure in the 1930s, to the 'simple form of verse' (M. Červenka). - At the time of its creation, the collection represented an expressionist face of literature alongside some works by J. Durych or J. Chaloupka, amidst the diversity of Czech poetry; and it also represents a specifically perceived and heightened Christian experience, thus the charge with which motivated artistic attempts signify one of the moments that are crucial in literature. The book is published according to the original edition with illustrations by Josef Čapek.
