Description
The writer and lawyer Bohumil Hrabal went through a series of professions: he was a warehouseman, a dispatcher, an insurance agent, a worker in steel mills, and a packer of old paper. The thinking of an author associated with spontaneous storytelling and pub anecdotes, however, also had a spiritual dimension. What attentive readers have only suspected until now was confirmed by a recent discovery of recordings of Hrabal's Advent sermons at the rectory in Libice nad Cidlinou. Even as a man in his seventies, Hrabal not only reveals a rare sensitivity to the sacred dimension of life but also explains his rejection of a legal career and his inclination towards the downtrodden as his path of a 'little Christ.'
