Description
The party on the Flying Dutchman, the second part of the Austrian trilogy by Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlando, is even more outrageous, absurd, and intricate than the first part: a colorful society made up of all classes and European nations and nationalities loiters on the magically beautiful Mediterranean Apple Island, chatting, gossiping, celebrating, and coming up with fantastic nonsense. The bizarrely redrawn image of the Austrian universe before the outbreak of World War I serves as a sharp satire on various - mostly parasitic - social types and, in its apocalyptic conclusion, acts as a prediction of the impending catastrophes of the 20th century.
