Description

This unique handbook offers a different, and arguably new, perspective for many electrical engineers on the design, installation and operation of electrical installations than the publisher’s other publications. More than 20 years have passed since the first edition was published in 2004. Since then, areas posing a risk of fire have expanded significantly, not only in buildings but also in connection with installed electrical equipment. Legislation and technical standards respond to this development: their requirements for the location of electrical equipment and the design of electrical installations strengthen the fire safety of buildings. This trend will continue, making amendments to existing legislation and the introduction of new legislation and technical standards in this field likely. It is therefore necessary to monitor these developments and apply the new requirements in practice. The ongoing development of building technologies and technical equipment for buildings is accompanied by increasingly demanding requirements for their overall safety. This is necessarily reflected in the number and level of legal and technical requirements concerning fire safety. The design, installation, implementation and subsequent operation of building systems are consequently becoming an increasingly demanding discipline, made no easier by constant changes to the relevant regulations. The main aim of this publication is to provide information on current requirements and changes to regulations concerning the fire safety of buildings that directly relate to the electrical profession. It partly follows on from the handbook Fire Safety of Electrical Installations (IN-EL, Prague 2004), but updates and substantially expands its contents so that readers have a comprehensive overview of current standards concerning building fire safety, particularly the ČSN 73 08xx series. Special attention is devoted to three newly issued parts of this extensive series: ČSN 73 0848 Fire Safety of Buildings – Electrical Equipment, Electrical Installations and Wiring; ČSN 73 0895 Fire Safety of Buildings – Maintaining the Functionality of Cable Routes under Fire Conditions – Requirements, Tests, Classification Px-R and PHx-R, and Application of Test Results; and the entirely new ČSN P 73 0847 Fire Safety of Buildings – Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. The opening chapters provide an overview of current legal and technical regulations related to building fire safety that directly affect the design, implementation and operation of electrical equipment and wiring in these structures. The following sections discuss in greater detail the requirements for standard cable wiring and related areas.
