Description
This richly illustrated Czech-language publication presents Baťa, one of the great symbols of interwar Czechoslovakia. The name represents success, while Tomáš Baťa is known abroad as the king of footwear and one of the most famous Czechoslovaks. The book shows how he was ahead of his contemporaries not only through the most modern shoemaking machinery, but also through air transport, filmmaking, agricultural and chemical research, original architecture and the construction of skyscrapers. He contributed significantly to the founding of the Anthropos Museum in Brno and opened a footwear museum in Zlín. He built schools and reformed education, fulfilled his commitment to becoming the republic’s largest taxpayer and invested heavily in transforming Zlín into a garden city with top-quality healthcare, education and communications, as well as a growing number of entrepreneurs. Through all this, he demonstrated in tangible form the principles now known as responsible capitalism. The publication shows the remarkable success achieved by the Zlín industrialist, mayor and head of a global footwear empire across many fields, and invites today’s readers to consider what they can learn from Baťa and how they might build on his legacy.
