The authorized biography of Zdeněk Pohlreich. "At first, I didn't want to do it. I felt like I had already said everything about myself. This year marks 50 years since I first stepped into a professional kitchen and began a journey that has led me to where I am today. In the end, I liked the idea of describing my five decades in gastronomy and how I experienced them. It is also very interesting to relive some parts of life again, to reminisce about what was and how it was. I recorded dozens of hours on a dictaphone with my colleague Honza from our publishing house. He asked questions, I answered, and then Honza transcribed everything onto paper, I made some edits and additions. We wrote down everything that preceded my rise to public awareness through the show Yes, Chef! up to the present. It's a conversation about where I came from, about my ancestors, some childhood memories, experiences from my apprenticeship, through military service to the complicated emigration and return to the emerging capitalism of the 1990s. The book is mainly about gastronomy as I experienced it in socialism, abroad, in corporations, and up to my own private business. Where I drew inspiration from, what life twists I encountered. After all these years, I dare say that I have seen a lot, met a few people, and experienced quite a bit. Incredible...
