Description
After the end of the civil wars, Jan Žižka receives a pardon from King Václav but is denied access to the royal service. He therefore leaves for Poland with many former comrades in arms, where a decisive clash with the Teutonic Order is approaching near the settlement of Grunwald in Pomerania. The Polish-Lithuanian army, reinforced by Czech troops, wins the battle, but King Vladislav Jagello fails to use the victory to drive the Germans from the country for good. After returning home, Žižka is charged by the Czech king with protecting the safety of Queen Žofie. Together with her, he attends the sermons of Jan Hus, and when Hus travels to defend his teachings before the Church council in Constance, Žižka becomes one of his companions. After Hus is imprisoned, Žižka seeks support for him from the French and English kings, whose dynasties are related to the Luxembourgs, but is surprised to discover that neither of them can be relied upon.
