The plot is enlivened by the fates of many real and fictional characters who accompany the reader throughout the six-part series. ***** In its third volume, titled after one of the stories Death of the Midwife, Court Counselor Vyroubal and a trio of police inspectors solve not only crimes but also humorous or more serious situations that everyday life in the city brings. We also continue to follow the romantic troubles of the likable youngest inspector Mlejnek. ***** All this takes place against the backdrop of contemporary events in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in 1911.
