Northwest Plzeň - this beautiful corner of our homeland is truly remarkable, even though it is often somewhat overlooked. Here flows the waters of the Mže River, which then appear in the eastern part of the region between the banks of the Berounka; historically, this area is among the earliest settled in the Czech Republic. The administrative center of the region is Nýřany. Although it may seem like a purely modern city at first glance, upon closer inspection, we find that it existed as early as 1272, when the village of this name was first mentioned in a document by Pope Gregory X as the property of the Premonstratensian monastery in Chotěšov. The church of St. Martin, which has stood on the hill above the village of Všeruby since the 12th century, deserves admiration as it is the oldest preserved ecclesiastical building in the region. The picturesque town of Úterý, with its beautiful burgher houses and ancient church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, whose Baroque form refers to the master of sacred architecture, Kryštof Dientzenhofer, will literally take the breath away from many visitors.
