The author and his wife Delores live on a farm in the Lillooet River valley, flowing through one of the countless valleys of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. Here, surrounded by untouched nature, they built a cabin, a barn, and wood sheds. A large garden, orchard, beehive, chicken coop, and a herd of alpacas and llamas provide them with most of their needs. On the mountain slopes above the house, a large herd of deer winters, providing meat for the entire year. All of this is watched over by a big black dog named Buddy, who has returned bloodied several times from chasing wolves and bears. He is a smart and brave dog. What brought them to this remote mountain valley? It was a desire for independence from the hurried civilization, an escape from the noise of the city, and the endless race of life that led nowhere. How did the author get from a small Moravian village to the banks of the Lillooet River among wolves and bears?
