The author and his wife Delores live on a farm in the Lillooet River valley, flowing through one of the countless valleys of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. Some stories take place on their homestead, which spans 35 hectares of meadows, mountain slopes, and adjacent beaver ponds. Here, surrounded by untouched nature, they built a cabin, a barn, and wood sheds. A large garden, orchard, beehive, chicken coop, and a herd of alpacas and llamas provide them with most of their needs. All of this is watched over by a big black dog named Buddy, who has returned bloodied several times from chasing wolves and bears. He is a smart and brave dog. What brought them to this remote mountain valley? It was a desire for independence from the hurried civilization, an escape from the noise of the city, and the endless race of life that led nowhere. How did the author get from a small Moravian village to the banks of the Lillooet River among wolves and bears?
