Description

In the hot summer of 2010, when wildfires swept through the European part of Russia, a twenty-year-old girl arrives from Siberia to meet her father, whom she hasn't seen in ten years. They set off together on a long journey in his truck, with their destination being the vast steppe in the south of the country. The father, who considers that inhospitable expanse his home and only possession, wishes to share it with his adult daughter. However, the native of the taiga finds the open landscape rather frightening and foreign. And her father is foreign to her as well. So, during the journey in the truck's cabin, she tries to understand who this prematurely aged man is, whom she habitually calls dad, and reflects on the childhood she spent with him in a small Siberian town in the 1990s, on the romanticized world of crime to which her father belonged, on the illnesses that are better left unspoken, and on her homeland, which struggles with its own past.
