The classic operative approach to diseases, defects, and injuries of the adult foot is relatively conservative; however, the issue of ankle replacement and small joints of the foot shows quite a turbulent development.

The aim of the monograph is to expand knowledge and unify the nomenclature and procedures that are not yet universally accepted by all groups of the professional orthopedic and podiatric community. Therefore, special attention is given to the issue of ankle joint endoprosthetics, including a detailed discussion of possible complications and proposals for their resolution. Compared to earlier publications, the anatomy and biomechanics of the foot are newly addressed, and the range of operations for hallux valgus is supplemented.
The topic is quite extensive, and in many cases, it was necessary to create corresponding Czech terminology in a form that is understandable not only to narrowly focused specialists. The book is supplemented with very rich visual documentation.
