The diagnosis and therapy of esophageal diseases is, in many respects, the daily bread of general practitioners, gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists. However, in many cases, it presents challenges due to the complexity of the approach and the techniques of interventions.

Attention is paid to anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, with the main focus on a comprehensive view of both common and rare esophageal diseases. It includes an overview of benign diseases, including congenital developmental defects, reflux disease, achalasia, diverticula, strictures, trauma, inflammatory and functional disorders of the esophagus, as well as neoplastic lesions ranging from precancerous conditions and benign tumors to esophageal carcinoma, hypopharyngeal cancer, and mesenchymal tumors of the esophagus.

The book is intended for all relevant fields, and its main effort is to summarize current knowledge, classifications, recommended procedures, and algorithms. The issues are widely analyzed and presented in light of the latest scientific opinions.
