Description
This graphic novel begins with the discovery of a famous painting by Max Švabinský. Behind the calm face in the portrait lies an exceptional woman. History remembers Baroness Sidonie Nádherná (1885–1950) as a muse whom Rainer Maria Rilke and Karl Kraus regularly visited at Vrchotovy Janovice Castle. Through four chapters focusing on her relationships with the most important men in her life, however, the book reveals another side of her personality. Sidonie was not only a sensitive and educated femme fatale, but also a strong and emancipated woman with a rich inner world. She loved art, travel and nature, and was one of the first environmentalists and driving licence holders in her country. In her letters and diaries, she comments on the dramatic upheavals of the 20th century and the futile efforts to save her family heritage. Her emphasis on equality, freedom, care for the environment and the cultivation of one’s inner life remains inspiring to this day. The contents are in Czech.
