Bulgaria is a popular holiday destination among Czech tourists, but most of them likely travel only by plane and only explore the Bulgarian coast. Moreover, these package holidays organized by travel agencies and conducted by air are often very expensive during the summer, even if you book them several months in advance.
There is, however, a very good alternative used by many people, including myself – simply book accommodation in Bulgaria, even with all-inclusive, and drive there by your own car. This way, your holiday can easily cost you less than half of what you would pay for a flight holiday – of course, it depends on the number of fellow travelers, the timing of the holiday, and so on.
In this publication, I want to recommend and describe interesting places that you can visit both on your way to Bulgaria or from Bulgaria, as well as in Bulgaria itself.
Whether you depart from Plzeň, Prague, or Ostrava and take the route through Hungary and Serbia, you will be driving on the highway until you reach the Bulgarian border. The capital city of Bulgaria, Sofia (which is on the route) is about 1,200 kilometers away, and from Sofia to the sea, it is another approximately 400 kilometers.
