The first part of the translation of a significant work of Islamic-Arab civilization – the book ?abaqat al-Mutazila (Generations of the Mutazilites – i.e., a description of individual generations and prominent representatives of the Islamic direction of Mutazila) by the prominent Muslim theologian Ahmad bin Yahya bin al-Murtada, who lived approximately from 1363 (or 1374) to 1436 of the Christian era. As far as I know, this translation into Czech is the first translation of this work from Arabic into another language. This is despite the fact that this work is a historically and theologically significant artifact of Islamic civilization and allows us an alternative perspective on what ideas and opinions the founder of Islam, Mohammed, and his closest companions might have had; a perspective that contradicts the official dogma and interpretation of history promoted today by the largest Muslim theological direction known generally as Sunni orthodoxy. The group of Muslims identifying as Sunnis (i.e., Sunni orthodoxy), more precisely Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama'a (People of Tradition and Community), is today the largest group of Muslims and is divided into many subgroups.
