Description
For centuries, we were part of the Habsburg monarchy, and the Battle of Vienna is part of our history. However, after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, a certain resistance to the Habsburg period of our history unfortunately developed, and this era was deliberately overlooked. Yet many events took place then, in which Czechs, Moravians, and Silesians played a positive and often even a leading role. The same was true in the Battle of Vienna, where thousands of our ancestors fought among both the defenders and the liberating forces. Probably the most famous representative of this anti-Turkish alliance, which had the blessing of Pope Innocent XI himself, is Polish King Jan III Sobieski. Among the main commanders of the anti-Turkish alliance were also leaders from our nation. We firmly believe that this work by Professor Imendörffer will help many of you discover the forgotten corners of our past and learn more about the heroism of our ancestors, so contrasting with the cowardice of many today's Europeans.
