Description
The second, revised edition of a systematic summary of the terminology of medieval fortification architecture for the territory of the Czech Republic, presented in broader European contexts. The explanatory part introduces the types of fortified buildings and settlements, their structure and individual elements, clearly explaining their interrelationships and functions. All listed items are then arranged in a four-language dictionary (in addition to Czech, English, German, and French), which has been noticeably lacking until now. A rich visual appendix aids in the proper understanding of the large amount of information. The book is intended for both experts and lay readers, among whom medieval castles, urban fortifications, and other fortification structures enjoy considerable attention.
