The book presents the results of research on historical residential buildings of agricultural estates in a small region on the border of Southern and Central Bohemia. The focus of interest became the less fertile region around the town of Petrovice, located away from larger economic centers and long-distance communications. The research was motivated by the increasingly intense trend of demolishing old residential buildings. Among the documented objects, timber-framed houses prevail. The main basis of the research is a detailed architectural-historical survey combined with the creation of measurement and photographic documentation. The second pillar of the research is an archive source review. The aim of the architectural historian is to understand the spatial and structural aspects of residential houses and the sequence of construction phases. The archival review primarily clarifies the social status of the builders and homeowners, but in some cases, it can also capture specific mentions of the time of construction or renovations of the examined houses. Valuable dating support was provided by dendrochronological analysis of selected structural elements for most houses. The book consists of two sections. The core is a catalog of 23 houses.
