Description
The book Arborians in Dark Times combines historical fiction from the World War II era with a modern adventure novel. The fictional story is set against the backdrop of real events from the scouting resistance. Today's ninth-graders Lucka, Honza, and Patrik discover that their acquaintance, the old Mr. Jílek, once had a half-brother named Jirka, of whom he was previously unaware. Where did this boy, who attended the Arborians scout troop during the Nazi occupation, disappear to? Why did Mr. Jílek's parents never tell him about his brother? Who was brave and who succumbed to fear and threats? How far could Nazi evil go? Lucka, Honza, and Patrik begin to investigate history. However, their seemingly innocent research starts to intensify, as some witnesses are still alive and have a personal interest in keeping old mysteries closed. The adventurous story is full of Foglar-like mystery and unexpected twists. The modern language and brisk narrative style draw in the reader, making it accessible for today's young generation.
