Description
Hokrstory takes us into the "botulism-inflated can" of late socialism among the musicians of the young nonconformist group Mrtvičný grundle, who resolve their aversion to collaborating with the "Bolshevik" by escaping into the underground subculture and surrendering to rock music. The narrative intertwines the clash between the world of official culture, with its necessary concessions to comrades, and an uncompromising stance that brings with it a condemnation to a life without ambition. Characteristic of the time is that neither choice is good. The first path means losing oneself, while the second means surviving under the heavy hand of a dull and frightened regime. The honest testimony of this book presents, in an unpolished and raw form, a witness to the normalization era that created fertile ground for absurd and tragicomic situations. --- Vladimír "Lišák" Liška (*1958) is the frontman and lyricist of the band Hokr. His autobiographical prose debut Hokrstory tells a timeless story from the musician's milieu.
