Description
Erben's Bouquet is based on Czech national legends and stories, each of which is layered and resonates with allegory or a cautionary motto that not only successfully conveys the strict moral values of traditional Czech society but also perfectly depicts the soul of the Czech nation. It has significantly influenced Czech writers, visual artists, and musicians, including Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884), Jan Neruda (1834-1891), Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904), Leoš Janáček (1854-1928), and Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959). All of them expressed in their work a desire for the rise of the Czech nation. Mi:Lu Publishing released Erben's Bouquet in December 2021 in Taiwan, translated into traditional Chinese. And this year, the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan included this edition in the selection of recommended reading for students of Taiwanese primary and secondary schools. The Taiwanese edition of Bouquet could be an impetus for the 'rediscovery' of Erben's timeless and, in our country, not always sufficiently appreciated work.
